Communications and Marketing Specialist

remote
Calgary, AB, Canada .
full-time . October 23, 2026

Description

Can you turn complex research into a story that helps people understand, make better decisions, and take action? Bring your writing, design, and digital marketing skills to PolicyWise.

As our Communications and Marketing Specialist, you’ll help our research reach the people shaping policies and services for children, youth, families, and communities.

What you’ll do

  • Make evidence accessible. Work with project teams to create clear stories, reports, summaries, and presentations that preserve the meaning of the research.
  • Engage our audiences. Plan and deliver social media content, newsletters, and digital campaigns for donors, partners, policymakers, and communities.
  • Manage our website. Keep content accurate, accessible, and current, coordinating technical updates with our web and IT partners.
  • Strengthen our brand. Design digital and print materials, support the annual report, and help colleagues apply our voice and visual identity consistently.
  • Improve our approach. Use website, social media, and email data to refine communications and recommend improvements.
  • Coordinate media inquiries. Work with senior leadership and content experts to prepare accurate, timely responses.

What we’re looking for in your application

  • Relevant experience: 3 to 5 years in communications, marketing, or a related field, including digital campaigns, social media, newsletters, website content, and analytics.
  • Strong work samples: Writing, editing, and design examples that show how you make complex information clear and engaging.
  • Technical skills: Working proficiency with Microsoft Office, Canva, relevant Adobe Creative Cloud applications, content management systems, social media tools, and email marketing tools.
  • Education: A degree in communications, marketing, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience.
  • Additional assets: Experience in a non-profit, social service, government, or community-based organization, along with skills such as search engine optimization, web accessibility, or basic video editing.

What we’ll explore in the interview

  • We’ll ask about real situations: The decisions you made, how you worked with others, what happened, and what you learned. Our values will guide that conversation.
  • Insight: How do you figure out what an audience needs to understand? We’ll explore how you ask questions, interpret evidence, and communicate findings accurately, including when the information is complex or incomplete.
  • Adaptability: How do you respond when priorities shift or new information changes the approach? We’ll look for thoughtful adjustments, clear communication about trade-offs, and sound judgement about what needs to stay consistent.
  • Courage: How do you raise a concern, challenge an assumption, or give candid feedback? We’ll explore how you handle difficult conversations respectfully and respond when someone challenges your own work.
  • Collaboration: How do you involve the right people and move work forward together? We’ll look for examples of clarifying expectations, drawing on others’ expertise, managing competing requests, and following through on commitments.

You’ll also have space to ask questions and assess whether the role and our working environment fit what you’re looking for.
