Senior Architectural Technologist

Edmonton, Alberta, Canada .
full-time . February 6, 2026

Description

If you’re the person everyone goes to when drawings get messy, approvals get sticky, or coordination gets complicated, keep reading.
This is not a support role. This is not a “just redlines” job. This is a technical leadership seat.

We’re looking for a Senior Architectural Technologist who can take complex projects from design intent to built reality and keep quality, compliance, and coordination airtight along the way. You’ll lead the technical side of projects, mentor a strong team, and act as the calm, competent adult in the room when details matter most. And they do.

Why This Role Exists
Our projects are growing in scale and complexity. That means we need someone who can:
  • Own the technical delivery end to end
  • Set the bar for documentation and compliance
  • Coordinate confidently across consultants and contractors
  • Coach and elevate the technologists around them
If you thrive at the intersection of design integrity, buildability, and leadership, this is your lane.

What You’ll Be Responsible For
Technical Leadership and Design Delivery
  • Lead technical design across all project phases from concept through construction
  • Translate design intent into coordinated, buildable, cost-effective solutions
  • Produce and oversee detailed construction drawings, specifications, and schedules
  • Set and uphold technical quality standards across projects
  • Review and approve technical documentation prior to issue

Regulatory and Compliance Leadership
  • Ensure compliance with building codes, planning conditions, fire safety, accessibility, and statutory requirements
  • Lead engagement with building control bodies, fire engineers, and regulators
  • Resolve complex approval and compliance challenges
  • Stay current on legislative changes and industry best practices

BIM and Digital Delivery
  • Lead BIM delivery in line with office and project strategies
  • Define BIM execution plans, standards, and information requirements
  • Coordinate architectural models with structural, MEP, and specialist consultants
  • Lead clash detection and technical coordination reviews

Project and Consultant Coordination
  • Act as the primary technical interface for consultants, contractors, and clients
  • Coordinate architectural information across multidisciplinary teams
  • Participate in and lead technical coordination meetings
  • Review consultant and contractor information for alignment with design intent

Construction Phase Support
  • Provide senior-level technical support during construction
  • Lead responses to RFIs and technical queries
  • Review and approve shop drawings and technical submittals
  • Attend site meetings, inspections, and defect reviews
  • Support contract administration and technical risk management

Team Leadership and Mentorship
  • Lead, mentor, and support junior and intermediate technologists
  • Allocate work, manage workloads, and support development
  • Conduct drawing reviews and provide clear, constructive feedback
  • Contribute to recruitment, onboarding, and performance development

Project and Risk Management
  • Manage technical delivery within programme, budget, and quality constraints
  • Identify and mitigate technical, regulatory, and coordination risks
  • Support fee proposals and resourcing plans
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and lessons learned

What You Bring
Technical Expertise
  • Advanced knowledge of construction technology, materials, and building systems
  • Strong command of building regulations, fire strategy, accessibility, and compliance
  • High-level proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit

Leadership and Professional Skills
